What you have on hand when a disaster happens can make a big difference. Plan to store enough supplies for everyone in your household for at least three days. Include:

q Food: nonperishable, high-protein items requiring no refrigeration, cooking or additional water such as energy bars, ready-to-eat soup and peanut butter
q Flashlight: with extra batteries
q First Aid Kit: with a reference guide
q Medications: both prescription and nonprescription
q Battery Operated Radio: with extra batteries
q Tools: wrench, can opener, hammer, screwdriver, pliers, knife, duct tape, plastic sheeting, garbage bags
q Clothing: one change, including sturdy shoes and gloves
q Personal Items: glasses, lenses, copies of important papers, ID, grooming and comfort items
q Sanitary Supplies: toilet paper, personal hygiene, cleaning, and bleach

Keep your Disaster Kit in a location you have determined as suitable for sheltering-in-place. For example:
