Fight the Bite Bar Night

February 2008

Club Red hosted a fundraiser at Piola in Arlington to benefit the Malaria Prevention Program of the American Red Cross. Donations were collected at the door and 15% of the bar proceeds were donated to the cause.  Approximately 50 people attended and we raised approximately $1,400 which allowed us to send 140 bed nets to families in Africa.

 

Thank-a-Thon

February 2008

Club Red volunteers came to the Chapter one cold February evening to make personal phone calls to the Chapter’s recent financial donors to offer a friendly “Thank You!”  Over 1,000 calls were made by approximately 20 volunteers.  Their work paid off!  The Chapter saw a great increase in the number of repeat donors in the month of March!

 

March Mania Silent Auction

March 2008

Several members of Club Red planned the Silent Auction portion of March Mania, our Chapter’s basketball tournament fundraiser.  Volunteers collected in-kind donations to be auctioned off.  Over $4,000 was raised for the Chapter through their volunteer efforts!  Go Club Red! 

 

First Aid / CPR Course

April 2008

Club Red members were offered the chance to take the Adult CPR/First Aid with AED course for the discounted price of $20 (normally the class is over $50).  Several members took the course and became certified.

 

Wine Tasting

May 2008

Club Red hosted a wine tasting fundraiser with the help of Curious Grape.  The event was held at Courtland Towers in Arlington.  The cost of attending was $25 for Club Red members and $35 for non-members.  Participants got to experience eight wines from around the world and learn about each!  Approximately 30 people attended and a portion of the proceeds was donated to the Chapter, allowing us to raise over $400!   

Blood Drive

May 2008

Club Red hosted a Red Cross blood drive at the Arlington County Chapter on Saturday, May 31, 2008.  Six Club Red members staffed the registration and refreshment stations at the drive, and 24 productive units of blood were collected.  

Steam Clean Up

June 2008

Club Red members cleaned up parts of the Four Mile Run stream in Barcroft Park on Saturday, June 28, 2008.  The group picked up trash and removed invasive species.  The project was well liked and the group has decided to “adopt” that section of the park!     

Rock Bottom Brewery Fundraiser

July 2008

Club Red hosted a fundraiser at Rock Bottom Brewery in Ballston Common Mall on Thursday, July 17, 2008.   The group raised $1,668 by selling bracelets at the door.  Patrons who bought the bracelets from Club Red were able to enjoy unlimited $2 beers for the rest of the evening.  Since this event was such a success, Club Red hopes to host similar fundraisers at Rock Bottom several times per year.

Home Improvement Project
August 2008

Club Red partnered with Community Residences, Inc. to complete a home improvement project at a local group home for people with disabilities. The group cleaned the home’s back yard and painted the interior to provide the residents with a better living experience.

Mini Golf Tournament
September 2008

Over 15 Club Red members volunteered at the Arlington County Chapter’s Mini Golf Tournament, held at Upton Hill Regional Park on Saturday, September 13, 2008. With their help, the Chapter was able to raise over $5,000 for programs and services for our local community.

Happy Hour at Ireland’s Four Courts
November 2008

Club Red hosted a happy hour/fundraiser at Ireland’s Four Courts on November 6, 2008.  Volunteers collected donations at the door in exchange for drink and food specials.  The group raised over $900 for the American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund.

Happy Hour at Ragtime
December 2008

Club Red hosted a happy hour/fundraiser at Ragtime on December 17, 2008 and raised nearly $300 for the Arlington County Chapter by collecting $5 donations at the door in exchange for drink and food specials.

OAR Project Christmas Angel
December 2008

Club Red volunteered with Offender Aid and Restoration’s (OAR) Project Christmas Angel on December 18, 2008.  The group helped select and wrap presents for children of incarcerated parents.

Holiday Mail for Heroes
December 2008

Club Red partnered with the Youth Team to participate in the Holiday Mail for Heroes event held annually at the American Red Cross National Headquarters in Washington, DC.  The group helped sort and package holiday greeting cards to be sent to soldiers and veterans worldwide.

USO Package Stuffing Party

February and June 2009

Members of Club Red visited the USO at Ft. Belvoir to stuff care packages for soldiers serving overseas.

Special Olympics

Club Red has helped with several local Special Olympics events, including collecting registrations and cheering on athletes at local basketball tournaments and swim meets.

Capital Area Food Bank

April 2009

Club Red volunteered at the CAFB, sorting and stuffing bags of food for the hungry.

Arlington Food Assistance Center

May 2009

Club Red has partnered several times with AFAC, sorting and packaging bags of food for the hungry in Arlington.

 

Park Clean Up

June 2009

Club Red has officially adopted a section of Barcroft Park along Four Mile Run in Arlington!  We go several times per year to pick up trash along the trail and stream and maintain landscaping around the area by pulling weeds and brush, raking leaves, etc.

 

Alexandria Waterfront Festival

June 2009

Members of Club Red volunteered at the Alexandria Waterfront Festival, which benefits the Alexandria Red Cross.  Volunteers staffed a wine tent, beer tent, and store at the event.

 

Yoga Fundraiser

July 2009

A yoga instructor and member of Club Red offered a yoga class at the Chapter.  For a $8 donation to the Red Cross, Club Red members and friends could take the course and give back to their local community.
