Our Chapter has three Disaster Action Teams (DATs) whose members are the Chapter’s first responders to disasters. Teams rotate being on-call and are responsible for responding during the hours the Chapter is closed. In addition, several of our responders have volunteered to be available to respond during the day and are now part or our Daytime DAT. This system enables the Chapter to have responders available 24 hours a day, every day, all year long. In order for the DATs to be prepared to respond, a tremendous amount of work, focused on prevention, mitigation, and response, is executed by members of our Disaster Committee.
All Red Cross volunteers are incited to participate in disaster training and Chapter preparedness activities. When an incident occurs that exceeds the DATs’ ability to respond, all of our trained disaster volunteers are called into action. When the incident exceeds the Chapter’s ability to respond, the Chapter requests assistance from other local Chapters and our national headquarters. For more information about how to become a member of the DAT, please contact
