We appreciate your interest in disaster training and hope that you will find this site useful as you prepare to volunteer as a local Disaster Action Team (DAT) or preparedness committee member and/or a Disaster Services Human Resource (DSHR) system member. DSHR system members are eligible to respond to national disasters and emergencies and may specialize in one or more of the DSHR Service Groups and Activities (Individual Client Services, Mass Care, Partner Services, Information Management Support Services, Material Support Services, Staff Services and Organizational Support). Course requirements for these volunteer specialty tracks, which require specialized training, experience and skills can be accessed below.
There are three levels of courses:
Core - Required for Arlington County and Alexandria City DAT Members. These are also basic courses.
Basic - Courses for individuals seeking to become service associates or supervisors within the DSHR system to provide basic services of an activity within one of the DSHR service groups. DAT members are also encouraged to take these courses to broaden and strengthen the skills they bring to the local chapter DAT.
Advanced – Courses designed for individuals wishing to assume managerial and leadership positions in a specialty track in the DSHR system.
