Scoreboard
Although it might seem like the 2010 March Maniacs event is far, far away, now is the best time to start recruiting! We are aiming for 24 teams this year, so please mention this special tournament to all your basketball loving friends, relatives, neighbors, co-workers, strangers, etc.... We need your help to spread the word. We will have competitive and recreational divisions for the March 6 and 7 tournament. The more teams the more exciting the tournament. When interested parties ask for more information, please refer them to Jeff Conn at 703.863.5919 or Julia Wright at 703.527.3010 (extension 737). "Let's get Maniacal !!"
All funds raised from the March Mania Tournament are used to respond to natural disasters, house fires, to educate citizens on everything from CPR to child care, and to get emergency messages to loved ones on military duty. The Red Cross also provides nearly half of the nation's blood supply.

Training Health Tip
Athletes use large amounts of energy during their activities. Due to more muscle mass they use more energy during everyday activities, and while at rest, also. This increased energy must be fed with an increase in carbohydrates. The increase must come from complex, or long chain, carbohydrates. Carbohydrates have taken an unfair beating in the media lately. The increase in popularity of low carbohydrate diets, has people running from anything sweet. An athlete cannot afford to skip the carbohydrates. Not only do they supply immediate energy but they are stored in the muscles and fat stores for future energy use. The trick is to find the right amount of carbohydrates for your energy needs. Athletes who are involved with high intensity activities for short to moderate duration should get 65-70% of their calories from complex carbohydrates such as potatoes, pasta, cereals and fiber rich foods such as long grain rice and green leafy vegetables. Athletes involved in endurance activities can lower their carbohydrate intake to 60% with a slight increase in fat intake.
