Commonly known as SAF, the Red Cross Services to the Armed Forcesprogram provides emergency communications, emergency financial assistance and confidential counseling to members of our Armed Services.
To qualify, a service member must be on active duty, a reservist, or a member of the National Guard. Family members and certain civilians assigned to overseas military units are also eligible. Qualifying family members are parents, stepparents
parents-in-law, step-parents-in-law, siblings, step-siblings, children, stepchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, stepbrothers-in-law, and stepsisters-in-law.
To obtain assistance, active duty service members call 1.800.696.3873.
The caller will be asked for the service member’s full name, rank/rating, branch of service, social security number, military address, information about the deployed unit and the home base unit (for deployed status only), and the name and phone number of the attending physician or undertaker, if applicable.
