11:15 am – 12:00 pm Be Red Cross Ready*
Be Red Cross Ready is ideal for grades 2 – 6. This lesson teaches the basics of emergency preparedness, including making an emergency plan and preparing a proper disaster kit. Are you prepared?
(This class satisfies Bear Cub Scout Achievement 11a and 11e; Girl Scout Brownie Try It Safety Sense #6; Girl Scout Cadette IP Emergency Preparedness Skill Builder #5.)
12:00 pm – 12:30 pm Lunch
Participants may bring their own bag lunch or bring $5 for pizza, chips, and a beverage.
12:30 pm – 1:45 pm Basic Aid Training (BAT)*
BAT is ideal for grades 2 – 6. Learn the basics of first aid in this course. Attendees will learn about injury prevention, what to do during a medical emergency, and how to deal with bleeding, broken bones, burns, bites, and choking. An interactive BAT book is available for $2 to accompany this lesson.

2:00 pm – 4:00 pm Masters of Disaster
Masters of Disaster is ideal for grades 4 – 5. Learn about the science of natural disasters, such as hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and tornadoes. How can you stay safe during these disasters? An interactive video is accompanied with hands-on activities, such as building a hurricane house, identifying hazards in your home, and a jeopardy-style game for review.
(This class satisfies Girl Scout Junior Safety First Badge #1, #5, #6, #7 and #10.)
* The Be Red Cross Ready and BAT courses will be divided into two groups based on grade level to accommodate various ages and learning levels.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Safety Saturday cost anything?
No! Safety Saturday courses are offered free of charge to all participants. Those who attend the Basic Aid Training (BAT) course may purchase an accompanying workbook for $2 when they arrive, but purchase is not mandatory. Participants may also choose to purchase lunch for $5 (proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross).
Who may attend Safety Saturday?
Safety Saturday is geared towards local Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops. A group leader is expected to accompany the youth for safety and supervision. Individuals not associated with these groups are welcome to attend, but a parent or guardian must stay on site.
Where is Safety Saturday being held?
Safety Saturday will be held at the Arlington County Chapter of the American Red Cross, located at 4333 Arlington Boulevard (on Route 50, between George Mason Drive and Glebe Road).
Who will be teaching the courses?
Volunteers of the Youth Team at the Arlington County Chapter, ages 12-18, have been trained to teach these Red Cross courses.
Do participants need to take all of the courses offered?
Absolutely not. Participants are free to pick and choose which courses they would like to attend. Come for just one, or stay for them all! It’s up to you.
What will be served for lunch?
We’ll be offering participants and adult leaders the choice to purchase lunch (pizza, chips, beverage, and cookie) for $5 per person. Proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross.

Download a registration form here. You may also contact Heather Pritchett via e-mail or at 703.527.3010 x735 to request a registration form. A separate form must be filled out for each participant. Advanced registration is highly recommended. When courses reach maximum capacity they will be closed for registration.
