Interested in volunteering for the American Red Cross? We have volunteer opportunities available for adults and youth (ages 12-18). Regardless of your age, take the following steps and you’ll be on your way to helping your community and saving lives:
Step 1:
Determine if the Arlington County Chapter is the most convenient Red Cross location for you. There are Red Cross Chapters all over the Metro DC area. If you wish to volunteer in another jurisdiction (such as Alexandria, Fairfax, or DC) visit www.redcross.org to find the Chapter closest to you.
Step 2:
Determine if the American Red Cross is a good fit for you by completing a volunteer self-assessment.
Step 3:
Attend a New Volunteer Orientation. Upcoming dates can be found on our homepage and you can sign up online! At your Orientation you’ll fill out a Volunteer Application and learn about all of our volunteer opportunities.
Step 4:
Complete a background check. All Red Cross volunteers age 18 and older are required to successfully complete a background check before volunteering. This check verifies your Social Security Number and conducts a national criminal file search of the past 7 years. There is no credit check. You’ll receive more information about this at your Orientation.
Step 5:
After your Orientation, it’s up to you to decide how you want to spend your volunteer time. You’ll need to sign up for any relevant training within the department you choose.
After completing the steps above, you are officially a Red Cross volunteer! If you have any questions, please contact Heather Pritchett at 703-527-3010 x735
