School Year Activities:
During the school year (September through June), the Youth Team is active on weekday evenings and weekends. We hold meetings every other Wednesday evening from 6 – 7 pm at the Chapter. During the meetings, team members participate in small service projects and discuss upcoming projects. Approximately two weekend or after school service projects are held each month. Some of our school year projects include:
- Creating crafts with the elderly
- Fundraisers
- DC Central Kitchen meal preparation
- Making thank you cards for blood donors
- Preparing Red Cross course materials
- Writing letters to soldiers overseas
- Park clean-up
- Assisting with Red Cross special events
- And much more!
Summer Activities:
The Youth Team is even more active during the summer (late June through August). We have volunteer projects happening several times a week, so there are plenty of chances to get involved! Some of our summer projects include:
- Car washes for blood donors
- Fundraisers (bake sales, car washes, etc.)
- Meal delivery with Meals on Wheels and Food and Friends
- Visiting the Clara Barton House in Glen Echo, MD
- Teaching Red Cross courses on basic first aid and emergency preparedness to elementary-aged children
- Assisting with Red Cross special events
- And much more!
To Join the Youth Team:
All volunteers begin by attending a New Volunteer Orientation. At your Orientation, you’ll learn more about the American Red Cross and about all of our local volunteer opportunities in Arlington. To see a list of upcoming Orientations, see our homepage. To sign up, select the date that works best for you and click the red “I want to help!” button.
All Orientations are held at the Arlington County Chapter at 4333 Arlington Blvd, Arlington, VA 22203.
After attending the New Volunteer Orientation, youth will be able to attend Youth Team Meetings, participate in Youth Team projects, and train to volunteer with any American Red Cross services.
